Do you have some ALMA data, either archival or your own, that you want to explore and generate advanced data products for? Not sure where to start? Do you want to get away so you can focus on the data and have expert advice on-hand? Need a little bit more oomph in the computer processing department?

The UK ARC Node is planning on hosting a "Bring Your Own Data" (B.Y.O.D.) Data Reduction Party style workshop. At this event UK ALMA data users are invited to Manchester to work on their data with the assistance of UK ARC Node personnel and our computing resources.

The B.Y.O.D., workshop will be a freeform event focussed on data processing, with each group setting their own goals. At the end of the event, we would like to host an afternoon of short presentations from each group about what they worked on during the week.

For the B.Y.O.D., the UK ARC Node can support up to 8 groups (of greater than one person per group) up to a maximum number of attendees of 20 people. As such sign up will be on a first come first served basis.

To express an interest in attending please fill in the expression of interest form at the following link:

Agenda:

As stated in the meeting abstract the B.O.Y.D workshop is intended to be a freeform event to allow attendees to get on with processing their data. As such we are planning to have only only two fixed points in the agenda, those being:

November 21st - Arrival and ALMA introduction

  • 10:00 Arrival and set-up
  • 11:00 Introduction to radio interferometry and ALMA (optional talk) or start working on your data.

November 25th - Wrap-up

  • 13:00 A series of short talks from participants about what they have been working on during the week.

At all other times attendees are free to work on the dataset they have designated on signup with the assistance of the UK ARC Node staff.

Additional information:

Location: The workshop will take place in the UK ALMA/e-MERLIN room, 3.136 (3rd floor) in the Alan Turing Building. Directions to the Alan Turing Building and a list of local hotels for those staying in Manchester can be found here.

Food:  The Alan Turing Building is located near the centre of the University of Manchester main campus.  As such, we are located near many diverse eateries which should cover dietary requirements of most visitors. The nearest cafe is "Pi in the Sky" on the ground floor of the Alan Turing Building.

Coffee and biscuits will be provided by the UK ARC Node.

Social: The Thursday of the B.O.Y.D workshop is also Thanksgiving in the USA. UK ARC Node staff member George Bendo traditionally hosts an event with free pizza and beer while showing the American Football game playing that evening.  All attendees are invited.
