The UK ALMA Regional Centre (ARC) Node at the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics invites applications for a research associate position to work as a support astronomer for UK users of the Atacama Large Millimeter/sub-millimeter Array (ALMA). The ARC Node is funded by STFC to support the UK astronomical community to exploit the UK's investment in ALMA and is a leading member of the European ALMA Regional Centre network led by the ESO. We are seeking an appointee who will spend 75% of their time as part of the ARC Node team supporting astronomers with planning ALMA observations and acquiring and processing data as well as contributing to the continued development of ALMA. Polling for Interest in Future UK ALMA Workshops
The UK ALMA Hybrid Workshop planned for February 2022 is now full, but the UK ARC Node would like to determine whether members of the UK astronomical community would be interested in additional workshops this year. These could include a one-day ALMA proposal preparation workshop held in the week before the ALMA proposal deadline or another week-long comprehensive ALMA workshop sometime between May and September.
To assess the community’s interest in these workshops, we have set up a poll. Please fill this in by 15 January if you are interested in either of these possible workshops.
Also note that the UK ARC Node is available to assist people one-on-one either remotely or at the University of Manchester and that staff are available to run ALMA-related workshops at individual institutions. Please get in touch with us using the contact information below if you are interested in either of these options.
Upcoming I-TRAIN ALMA Training Events
Before the end of the year, the European ARC Network will be conducting one more online training session as part of the I-TRAIN series:
10 December (11:00 CEST) - STATCONT (for statistical continuum determination)
More information about the upcoming session as well as archived presentations and videos from previous sessions can be found on the ESO I-TRAIN website.
